This innovative punching unit is designed to work in a continuous process by means of a new concept of two punching stations moving in opposite directions.
The station moving in the same direction of the lead strip flow, performs the punching while the other station is moving to the opposite direction in order to be ready for the next punching cycle.
The main feature is THE LEAD STRIP WITH CONTINUOUS FLOW AT COSTANT SPEED (NO STOP & GO), avoiding any stress that the lead can be subject to, when start & stop occurs (typical behavior of punching machines currently present on the market).
The concept of having the strip fed at the same speed as the horizontal component of the punching equipment is Sovema patented (see USA PATENT NUMBER 6,145,363 dated Nov. 14, 2000 – Assignee SOVEMA S.p.A.)
The punching stroke is performed in only 10 msec and the vertical punch movement is only 4 mm.
Because of this small penetration stroke length and the high speed of stroke it is not necessary to press/block the lead strip; this feature minimizes the mechanical stresses of the machine and guarantee high reliability.
NO LUBRICANT IS NEEDED due to high punching speed (so called SHOOTING EFFECT) with the advantage to get a clean grid after punching operation (no ultrasonic cleaning tunnel required).
The punching process is composed of 6 steps: last 2 steps could be used both for punching or different operations (for instance grid-edge shaping or lug creation, see images below).
The machine is fully automatic, operated by an Allen Bradley PLC, an optic fiber circuit is installed in order to ensure a fast and reliable communication within the different machine units
